We’ve made the decision to play the DreamHack WC3 Championship online with players remaining in their homes. After consulting with players and authorities regarding requirements for travel and comfort levels this is the best way forward to continue the competition.
To adapt to fully online play this will no longer crown a single World Champion but instead be three regional championships between Asia, Europe, and America and be an ESL Pro Tour Challenger level competition in the ESL Pro Tour. To reward players for their earned qualification we will play with those already qualified, plus a minimum number of players to allow for a competition format. Players will compete for a total of $100,000 across regions, with the $30,000 bonus that we added into the prize pool moved to the World Championship later in 2021.
- America Championship: 2x Player Grand Final
- Europe Championship: 5x (previously Katowice qualified) + 3x Last Chance Online Qualified Players
- Asia Championship: 9x (previously Katowice qualified) + 3x Last Chance Online Qualified Players
These competitions will be played across the March 4-7 weekend with three winners emerging as the first title holders for the ESL Pro Tour WC3.
Following the event we will still proceed with resetting yearly EPT points and begin the ESL Pro Tour WC3 2021 season fresh, using the yearly total for invitations and seeding only for the first event, following our planned off-season. During this period we will continue with our regularly weekly ESL Open Cups however no EPT points will be awarded for them.
