On January 4th 2016, OpTic Gaming made their first foray into CS:GO by picking up the majorly Canadian ex-Conquest team ahead of the ELEAGUE Road to Vegas Finals. OpTic ended up taking a 2-0 victory in the finals over Lounge Gaming and secured a position in the upcoming first season of Turner Sports' ELEAGUE.
Since then, OpTic has won two other LAN tournaments: Northern Arena 2016 where they defeated G2 Esports 2-1 in the finals, and the impressive win of ELEAGUE Season 2 with a 2-1 victory over Astralis in the finals.
At the very beginning of February this year, stanislaw left OpTic to join Team Liquid and OpTic have been using stand-ins since, unable to find stanislaw's replacement. They used Hiko for both DreamHack Masters Las Vegas and IEM World Championship Katowice. The team finished both events in the group stage, with Katowice ending without a single map win.
OpTic's most recent results, however, are rather optimistic. Now using jasonR as their fifth player, the team finished second at the iBUYPOWER Invitational Spring, defeating Team Liquid in the semifinals 2-0 and conceding 0-2 to Cloud9 in the finals. Their most recent performance was ar cs_summit where they fought their way through the lower bracket, gaining wins against ENVYUS, Liquid and Cloud9, finishing the tournament at third place.
OpTic are definitely one of the underdogs of IEM Sydney but their recent results show that teams should not simply write them off. The player to watch will be Mixwell who just loaded into OpTic and became a super consistent star awper. His playstyle isn't very aggressive but he's not a static awper - he's a middle ground semi-aggressive semi-passive awper.

See you in Sydney!
