Introducing the first two CS:GO teams heading to Intel Extreme Masters San Jose and the CS:GO tournament format

Intel Extreme Masters San Jose will deliver the biggest CS:GO tournament North America has ever seen, with eight of the world's best teams to gather at the SAP Center to compete for a US$100,000 prize pool. It's now time to introduce the first teams attending the tournament as well as the format the matches will be played in, so let's get to it!

The format

A total of eight teams will be competing on the IEM San Jose CS:GO stage over the course of two days. All matches will be a best of three, played out in a single elimination format.

The teams

We are thrilled to announce that the first two of the eight invited teams are Team SoloMid and Team EnVyUs! Both teams, although young, have a number of accomplishments in respective their portfolios.
Team SoloMid have not finished below fourth place in any recent tournament they've participated in, with accomplishments including second place at the ESL ESEA Pro League Dubai Invitational and DreamHack London 2015 as well as third/fourth place at latest Valve major ESL One Cologne 2015, where they fell to Team EnVyUs in the semifinal. A similar story unfolded at the last Intel Extreme Masters at gamescom, with TSM losing to EnVy in the finals.
Team EnVyUs has also been in impeccable form over the past few months, not finishing below fourth place much like TSM. Their recent portfolio additions include first places at Gfinity Champion of Champions, DreamHack London 2015 and Intel Extreme Masters gamescom as well as second place at ESL One Cologne 2015.
