On December the 6th to the 7th, pro gamers from all over the world will be competing for trophies, glory and prize money at San Jose’s SAP Center as part of the latest Intel Extreme Masters event.
As winners of the most recent LCS seasons in North America and Europe respectively, Team SoloMid and Alliance have been invited to compete and will be placed directly into the semifinals.
A further two LCS teams (one from North America and one from Europe) will be invited based on a fan vote on the Intel Extreme Masters website started on October the 29th, and two South American teams will join via Latin American and Brazilian qualifiers.
The bracket will be as follows:
- Brazilian qualified team vs. North American poll team
- European poll team vs. Latin American champion
- Team SoloMid
Once decided, these teams will compete for a hefty US$50,000 prize pool at the SAP Center in San Jose.
George Woo, Corporate Sponsorships Manager at Intel, said of the event:
“When we first sponsored Intel Extreme Masters nine years ago, not many people bet on us going to arenas where professional sports and music concerts are performed. It’s gratifying to see how far we have come.”
Michal Blicharz, Managing Director Pro Gaming at ESL, said:
“We are proud to be delivering an esports event in a major US arena. With our stage layout we are looking at a capacity of about 12,000 seats. If we sell out, this will be one of the largest Western esports events of all time.”
